Support Groups Can Help You

Support groups can be of great benefit to you, your family and your friends before, during and after a liver transplant. Sharing concerns, fears, experiences and triumphs can be of comfort to you and your family. Sometimes sharing thoughts with someone who has gone through the same experience is beneficial. There are several types of support groups that you can become involved in now and for years to come.

Types Of Support Groups

Support for you and your family can come in many different forms. Educational programs, group gatherings, social activities, newsletters, written material, Internet groups, one-on-one support, talking on the phone and many more avenues.

Hospital Support Groups

Did you know that the University Hospital has a support program for liver transplant patients? The Tri-State Liver Transplant Support Group is a group that offers support and information to liver transplant patients, including transplant recipients and those waiting for a transplant, and their families.

Meetings are held the 1st Monday on the even months (February, April, etc.) at 6:30 p.m. at the University Hospital. To become involved you may contact the group by:

Tri-State Liver Transplant Support Group Center
2925 Vernon Place, Suite 300
Cincinnati, OH 45219-2430
Voice mail: 513-558-3286

Internet Support Groups

With the growing prevalence of the Internet, the rise of online support news and chat groups have become available for transplant patients. The beauty of Internet support groups is that you may participate in these groups frequently without having to reveal your real name. From the comforts of your home, you are able to ask personal questions without asking in the front of a group. Often you will find a broad range of experience form all over the country from around the world.

Registering at Multiple Transplant Centers

You may decide to register at more than one transplant center. However, each center determines who as candidates and reserves the right to decline patients who are listed at other centers. It is your responsibility to inform the transplant center if you are on multiple waiting lists.
